About Us

Bob and Chris have been avid hockey players for as long as they can remember. Through long-established friendships within the world of hockey, supporting (in their spare time) a major hockey brand at festivals and tournaments, Bob and Chris were persuaded to open a hockey shop, allowing them to combine a great sporting hobby with work. In 1993 The Stick Club was born !

Bob is a well known member of the hockey community having played for many years. Recently, a dodgy knee has forced him into a temporary retirement but this has not stopped him from being involved in our great sport. He is a qualified umpire and coach, as well as having held past and present roles as Gloucestershire HA President, Lansdown HC President and Gloucestershire Masters Representative.

Chris retired from playing almost simultaneously with the opening of the shop in 1993. She has many years of playing experience and has accumulated a wealth of knowledge so can advise customers on the dos and don’ts. She is the one that balances the books and ensures that we are kept in line at all times!

Lance joined the team about 15 years ago and has never looked back. He is a highly skilled embroiderer whose work is recognised for its perfection. He came to the game of hockey in later years, having been an accomplished badminton player beforehand. Everyone who knows Lance will know that his knowledge and experience of the game is extensive. He puts this to use coaching Lansdown HC Juniors. He has also held committee positions within the club throughout the years.

Sara is the latest addition to The Stick Club family, having joined in February 2014. She has played hockey from a young age and is pleased to be still playing for Lansdown HC. Having also held many roles within her club, including captain and secretary and has now taken the role of West Hockey Association secretary. Sara is the one responsible for bringing the business into the 21st Century!!

Between the four of us we have 153 playing years (adding this up slightly scared us). We’ve all played at a high level in our heyday & thoroughly enjoyed every moment – apart from the odd one of course.

The shop is still on its original site and although it has seen many changes in fixtures and fittings, it has become a well-known and well-loved destination for all things hockey.

We look forward to seeing you soon :o)
